The words double glazing often send a shudder down the back of homeowners and give off the most negative of connotations. But too many people dismiss it without giving any consideration to what it can do for their homes and most importantly, their finances.
The Home Enhancement Company has listed the following reasons why you should make double glazing in Aberdeen your next purchase:
Quality insulation
Double glazing contains one extra pane of glass compared to a single glazed window which means that it is far better at storing heat and preventing heat loss. When you lose less heat in the home it means that you can cut down on usage of your boiler, which will result in lower fuel bills. The savings you make over their lifespan will more than justify their cost.

Cut noise

Household fuel poverty has become a growing problem, with upwards of six million homeowners finding themselves paying out over 10% of their monthly income on energy bills. But this is not the only problem as an RAC survey has also shown that there are an increasing number of people being hit by petrol poverty.
With fuel prices soaring by an incredible 50% in just three years, a third of UK families have revealed that they have had no choice but to sacrifice family trips and days out. A total of 29% of drivers are also said to have limited the number of long journeys they have made in the past year.
Because of this, UK families have to spend more time in the home, but if they live in a property that feels cramped and short on space, the experience is unlikely to be as pleasant as it should be. …
The average UK homeowner is currently paying an estimated £1,250 per year on their energy bills so it is no surprise that people want to try and find a better and more affordable deal. Switching energy supplier can help you save a substantial amount of money, but only a small amount of people tend to do it.
It has been found by consumer experts uSwitch that those who do switch supplier generally only consider one of the Big Six which means that collectively those homeowners could be losing out on £337 million worth of savings. This is despite the fact that energy company First Utility offer the cheapest deal on the market. Just 52% say they would switch to a smaller supplier.
Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch, Ann Robinson says there is a general reluctance to switch to smaller companies, something which needs to be overcome:
“Unfortunately, when it …
Finding the right type of double glazing installer, one whom you can trust, can be a difficult process. If you ever crave home improvements you know that it will involve putting your home in the hands of others and you therefore hope that they will do the best possible job.
Consumer experts Which? have today revealed that local and independent home improvement firms tend to leave homeowners more satisfied than their big national counterparts. The Which? survey has also shown that just 7% of people trust a double glazing company, which is a surprising stat when you consider the progress made by the industry to clean itself up over the past few years.
Other findings to come out of the survey include confirmation that 40% of Which? members say it’s difficult to find advice on double glazing and a quarter of those polled state that they have no idea how …
Because of the exceptionally dry winter we have just experienced, large parts of the country have been hit by droughts. As a result of this, hosepipe bans have been enforced in parts of Southern and Eastern England which will affect around 20 million customers. Those found to be using a hosepipe in those areas could be hit with a fine up to £1,000.
Because of these restrictions on water usage, several of the country’s major water suppliers have raised their costs which has left homeowners scrambling to find ways to save on water. Here are a few handy water-saving tips:
1. When taking a shower try and limit the time you spend showering, using it in preference to a bath which consumes more water.
2. Ensure that washing machines and dishwashers are completely full before turning them on.
3. Turn off a running tap in between brushing your teeth.
4. …
The Office for National Statistics have uncovered that the disposable income of UK families has been hit by its biggest fall in 35 years. A drop of 1.2% last year compared to 2010 means that on average a family has £430 less savings to spend. This could not come at a worse time for large families as they have so many outgoings to contend with nowadays.
Energy bills are at their highest-ever level and set to rise further over the coming years. The same goes for petrol prices, food prices, water prices, even the cost of clothes, the list goes on and on! It also spells bad news for those hoping to put money towards a pension, as with very little to save how can they be expected to survive financially when they retire?

As mentioned earlier, energy bills are now one of the major outlays of a UK family, …
Records have been broken in Scotland as the temperature reached an all-time March 26th high of 22.9C (73.2F) in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire. Aviemore and Braemar also recorded temperatures of 22.3C (72.1F) and 22C (71.6F) respectively. Forecasters are reporting that temperatures are set to remain at a similar level for the next couple of days.
The warm weather has led to an increase in grass fires according to local fire services. Of equal worry will be the concern that droughts may become evident. Certain parts of the UK have already been hit with a hosepipe ban and if the weather hits similar highs over the next few months don’t be shocked to see Scottish authorities follow suit. If it does try following the below water-saving tips:
• Where possible, try not to over flush your toilet.
• Turn off running water in-between brushing your teeth.
• Keep the length of showers to …

The annual spring clean gives many people the opportunity to give their homes a bit of a makeover and where better place to start than with your existing windows. If you have yet to make the change to double glazing then now maybe the time that you gave it some consideration.
The Home Enhancement Company, based in Aberdeen, recommends that for many homeowners spring would be the best time to think about getting their windows changed. The warmer weather means that the work carried out on your property becomes less of a disruption to you and your family and your new windows will be ready for when the sun really begins to shine.
Not only will new double glazing help to improve the overall appearance and security of your home, they …

No-one should have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table for their family but unfortunately thousands of UK families are being forced to do exactly that. Energy bills have reached the stage where families are left with no other choice but to go without heating, even during the colder months of the year as they simply cannot afford not to eat.
Fuel poverty is an increasing problem throughout the UK. A person is classed as living in fuel poverty when 10% of their overall income is spent on energy bills. But as stated earlier there are some who going without heat throughout the entire day just so that they can afford their bills and all the other outgoings associated with being a homeowner.
